The St. John’s Red Storm and the Temple Owls meet in college basketball action from the Barclays Center on Monday night.

The St. John’s Red Storm will hope to build on their 70-50 win over Nebraska in their last game. David Jones leads the Red Storm in scoring with 17.8 PPG along with 8 RPG while Joel Soriano has 12.8 PPG with a team-high 11 RPG to lead the Red Storm on the glass by averaging a double-double per game. Posh Alexander’s putting up 11.3 PPG with 4 RPG and 4.8 APG this season while Montez Mathis has 10.5 PPG to round out the scoring in double figures for the Red Storm so far this year and Andre Curbelo also has 9 PPG with a team-high 6.2 APG to lead St. John’s in assists. As a team, St. John’s is averaging 85.3 PPG on 50.4% shooting from the field, 37.1% from three and 72.1% from the foul line this season.

The Temple Owls will hope to build on a 72-66 win over Rutgers in their last outing. Damien Dunn leads Temple in scoring with 24 PPG while Khalif Battle has 15.6 PPG as well this season. Jamille Reynolds has 13.3 PPG with a team-high 7.5 RPG to lead the Owls on the glass while Zach Hicks has 10 PPG with 4.5 RPG to cap off the scoring in double figures for the Owls up to this point in the year. Hysier Miller also has a team-high 5.5 APG to lead the Owls in assist department this season. As a team, Temple is averaging 75 PPG on 41.6% shooting from the field, 32.7% from three and 79.8% from the foul line this season.

St. John’s is 4-0 ATS in their last 4 Monday games and 11-5 ATS in their last 16 games overall while the under is 9-2 in their last 11 neutral site games. Temple is 7-2 ATS in their last 9 games against a team with a winning record and 2-5 ATS in their last 7 neutral site games while the under is 7-3 in their last 10 games following an ATS win.

I get the case to be made either way here, but I’m looking at St. John’s in a lean. I think the Owls have done a solid job out of the gate, but the Red Storm really started to find themselves in the second half against Nebraska in their last game and I think they’ll be eager to get off to a better start here. Temple’s usually a lot better at winning games with their defense and I think this isn’t a team that you can bury with defense. I’ll side with St. John’s in this one.

Chris Ruffolo’s Free Pick:

St. John’s -5.5
